WINDOWS

An interior space is most comfortable at about 20°Celsius and humidity is between 40-60%. In winter you can’t get that combination unless you have a heating system in your conservatory, sunroom or orangery. Your heating system should generate heat but not make condensation. No one likes water running down the walls. To achieve all of this in New Zealand’s four-seasons-in-one-day environment your heating system needs to react quickly to changing weather conditions.

CENTRAL HEATING

If you already have a central heating system, then you can add radiators to the conservatory. To be efficient these radiators must be placed near windows; unfortunately this means that they will be visible and take up floor area in the conservatory.

UNDERFLOOR HEATING

Underfloor heating is not sufficient on its own to heat a conservatory, because it reacts too slowly to temperature changes outside. Most of the time an underfloor system cannot provide enough heat. Underfloor heating systems create a nice warmth and are comforting but on their own they can not guarantee a comfortable space. We always recommend that you use underfloor heating in combination with another heating system to heat your conservatory. You can choose to combine underfloor heating with either central heating, a heat pump, or a trench heating system.

HEAT PUMP

Heat pumps are also efficient and can be a good option for heating your conservatory. A heat pump can be placed out of sight. Most models can also cool your conservatory in summer and de-humidify the air.

WOODBURNER

Woodburners are another good additional heat source in a conservatory. A fireplace adds a lot of cozyness to a conservatory. Careful planning in the design stage of your Wintergarten will ensure you comply with council regulations.

TRENCH HEATING SYSTEM

We recommend a trench heating system to heat your conservatory or sun room as it is recessed into the floor behind the glass. Heat will then be generated where it is needed. This system is not visible and does not take up floor space. The warm air circulates in front of the glass walls shielding your living space from the cool air radiating in from outside.

We recommend the German-made Kampmann Trench Heating System. Kampmann are world leaders in trench heating technology.

A trench heating system can be connected to your existing central heating or it can stand alone.
